From the sunbaked fields where our seeds are grown to the busy homes where our bread is served, we strive to make a positive impact every day. It’s a philosophy that extends beyond our bread to the world around us. We consistently work to improve the quality of our ingredients, reduce our carbon footprint, and give back to the communities we serve.
It all started back in 1932, when Hermann and Betty Dreyer opened a small retail shop in Los Angeles that was half bakery, half grocery store—and full-on delightful. Back then, you couldn’t find the premium bread that we love today. By starting small, the couple was able to give each brick-oven-baked loaf the attention it deserved. Today, though Hermann and Betty no longer make it themselves, Oroweat® is still committed to bringing you bread you can believe in—so you can live your life and love your loaf.
At Oroweat®, we pride ourselves on our ability to find sustainable, common-sense solutions to the issues that affect our business and the world around us. And now we have even more to take pride in: our brand is part of Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU). BBU has committed to initiatives that will help reduce energy use across the company and is communicating those efforts externally to foster real change in the industry.
Included below are just some of our current sustainability initiatives and accomplishments:
The Oroweat® team worked together to spruce up area parks in San Diego, CA and Denver, CO. Activities included laying mulch, painting curbs, and picking up litter.
